Lima
to Huacho (150 kms)
Getting out of Lima may be the hardest part of the trip. The quickest
way is through Ventanilla following the Pan-American Highway
north. You'll pass by the beaches of Santa Rosa and San Francisco. If
you have time, check
out the beach
resort of Ancon, the northern most
district in Lima.
The first town of any size outside Lima is Huacho, a small
port and commercial center. Getting to Huacho takes about 3 hours in
public bus, less time in a car. I made a food-stop at some dive of a
restaurant here, ordering a "sanduche
de chicharron de chancho" - a deep fried
pork sandwich on french bread with slices of onion and sweet
potato for only 4
soles, (or about $1.50 USD). Delicious!!!
